Why we started Kaya
Kaya began at home, watching two people I love try on my mother’s handbags.
My girlfriend and my sister-in-law slipped bags over their shoulders that they had admired for years and, realistically, might have waited two or three decades to own. The joy was immediate and completely genuine. In the same moment, my mother saw pieces that had sat at the back of her closet come back to life, treasured again and finally being worn.
That afternoon everyone in the room felt true luxury, and it cost them nothing. The feeling stayed with me, and I wanted to find a way to share it.
When I looked into it, I found that shared access to designer pieces was already established in cities like London, New York, and Paris. It had simply never arrived here. So we built it for South Africa.
The two who slipped those bags over their shoulders that day, Chernel and Lisa, run Kaya with me now.
Kaya is a members’ club for shared access to authenticated designer handbags, delivered to your door nationwide. One membership gives you a rotating closet of pieces to borrow, wear, and swap.
What we believe
There is something else behind Kaya that matters to me. Beautiful things are worth experiencing, and the people who love them should be able to reach them without spending a fortune. A single designer bag can cost as much as a small car, which puts it out of reach for almost everyone who would treasure it.

Sharing is also a kinder way to enjoy fashion. A bag that moves between several members is worn and loved instead of being bought new and left in a cupboard. That means less waste and a smaller carbon footprint for the same pleasure.
